The purpose of developing a Business Continuity Plan is to ensure business continuity during and after any critical incident that results in an interruption of the normal operational capability of a facility.
The Business Continuity Plan for a Business/Organization is a complete Risk Management Plan which among others provides a Business Impact Analysis and suggests:
- Procedures – instructions for timely Incident Response (Incident Response) καθώς και
- The Recovery Plan for the facility
An effective plan aims to address emergencies from a holistic all-hazards approach to enable the Business/Organization to protect its personnel and assets while providing an effective mechanism for determining how to resume operations after a catastrophic event.Business Continuity Planning aims to identify and capture the Organization's Key Functions that must be restarted as soon as possible after a catastrophic event. When determining these functions, it is important to consider the following:
- An organization may identify too many functions as necessary, limited resources and/or staff availability during the emergency may not be sufficient to allow for Business Continuity.
- If an organization fails to identify its essential functions and does not include them in its emergency and business continuity plans, those functions will not be performed during an emergency.
